Step-by-Step Instructions
Go to the Riot Games account page
Open your browser and navigate to account.riotgames.com. This is the official Riot Games account management portal.
Sign in to your Riot account
Log in using your Riot Games credentials (email and password). This is the same account you use for Valorant.
Navigate to the Riot ID section
Once logged in, find the "Riot ID" section on the account page. Your current name and tagline will be displayed.
Click Edit on your Riot ID
Click the edit button next to your current Riot ID. This will open the name change form.
Enter your new name and tagline
Type your desired game name (3-16 chars) and tagline (3-5 chars). The combination must be unique. Try our generator for ideas!
Save your changes
Click "Save Changes" to confirm your new Riot ID. You can change it again after 30 days. The change applies to Valorant, LoL, and all Riot titles.

Will Changing My Name Affect My Account?
Friends List & Stats
No! Changing your Riot ID will not wipe your friends list, your match history, or your competitive rank. Your friends will simply see your new name the next time you log in.
Skins, Radianite & Valorant Points
Your entire inventory (weapon skins, buddies, player cards), Radianite points, and Valorant Points (VP) are completely safe. They are tied to your underlying Riot account, not your display name.
Common Issues & Troubleshooting
"Riot ID Already in Use"
The exact combination of the Name and the Tagline you chose is already taken by someone else. You can keep the same Name, but you must choose a different 3-5 character Tagline.
Name Change on Cooldown
As of late 2023, Riot Games allows you to change your name for free once every 90 days. If the edit option is grayed out, you must wait until the cooldown period expires.
Inappropriate Name Warning
Riot's automated filters check for profanity, slurs, and PII (Personally Identifiable Information). If your name is flagged, choose a different one or risk an account ban if you constantly try to bypass the filter.
Tagline Randomly Assigned
If you don't manually choose a tagline during your name change, the system will often randomize one for you. Always double-check both fields before clicking save!
